East Midland LABC Building Excellence Award Winners

T.G. Sowerby Developments are celebrating after winning ‘Best Commercial Building’ at the 2016 East Midlands LABC Building Excellence Awards in Leicester.

The Awards Evening, Held at Leicester Athena saw the ‘Darrel Room’ Extension to Trinity Hospital in Retford win the ‘Best Small Commercial Building’ Award, as well as coming as a Finalist in the ‘Best Inclusive Building’ and ‘Best Public Service Building’ Categories.

The project was a special and unique development, delivering an extension and alterations to Trinity Hospital Alms House. The hospital was established 345 years ago with an endowment from the will of Dr John Darrel who left Retford Hall in 1671 to provide accommodation and hospitality for those in need within Bassetlaw district.

TG Sowerby Developments’ Steve Sowerby (Managing Director) and Steve Lyon (Director & Project Site Manager) attended the awards evening, along with Trinity Hospital Estates’ Bailiff, Bob Rabagliati; Soul Architects’ Carl Andrews (Project Architect) and Bassetlaw District Council’s Building Control Sections’ Angela Edwards (Building Control Manager), Bob Whatley (Principal Building Control Surveyor) and David Jones (Building Control Surveyor)

The project will now represent the East Midlands Region at the LABC Building Excellence Awards’ National Finals in November as its ‘Best Small Commercial Building’ Submission.

Steve Lyon said, “I am immensely pleased with this award, which is a credit to the hard work and craftsmanship which went into the project. We built up an excellent working relationship with the Client and the project team, as well as Bassetlaw’s Building Control Section, all of which went towards making this project the success that it was. There were some excellent projects exhibited at the awards evening in our category; however, biased as I am, I always suspected our project’s special and unique nature would buoy it above its competition. I am looking forward to the National Finals in November, where I believe our project will again be a strong contender.”
